I have a 1999 182S with a KLN89B. Iwant to update the database using my laptob and the internet. I have all the cables and I am ready to downlaod the update from the bendix-king website but I cannot find a dataport in my airplane. Is there one, and can someone tell me where it is?
Thank You.
I have a 1999 172R with a KLN89B. I came to the conclusion a data port was never installed, and bought the plug-in card subscription, which is more expensive.
I have a 1998 182 and the adapter was never installed in the plane. The local shop wanted almost 400 bucks so I opted to purchase a console from Lonestaraviation.com. The cool think about this is I can take the 89B out of the plane and update it from my computer at home. I can even pre-program my fight plans and play with the GPS at home... This was a win win for me.
The Data port is a odd looking 4 contact connector that looks alot like a 1/4" TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve, or guitar plug for you music types) only shorter. It is only 4 wires and should be fairly easy to install if you have the installation manual.
i COULDN'T FIND THE plug on my 1998 C-172R for the longest time. It is mounted between the pilots legs near the yoke under and behind the firewall. My mechanic found it during a 100 hour inspection. It is truly in a place you would never expect it. Hope this helps.
