The autopilot in my Hawk XP has quit. I don't know if it's worth paying for someone to troubleshoot it or to bite the bullet and have a new unit installed. In the heading mode it will start a right turn as soon as it's engaged. In nav track it will not hold the heading that is set on the HSI.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Pilot's ADI is not providing proper roll information. First check little blue connector for serviceability. Second have the gyro overhauled. Third contact avionics tech like me.
The older 200 series autopilots used the turn coordinator to control the turn rate. It is a basic rate gyro. It functions by introducing a signal opposite to the guidance signal. Once the nomral rate of turn is reached, the guidance signal is nulled out by the rate gyro signal. It's a bit more complex than that, but that's the nuts and bolts of it.
If the rate gyro is faulty, it may be saying "turn left" all the time. Does the aircraft tend to turn the same way whenever the autopilot is engaged??
