I am the owner of a 1978 Cessna 182RG, for four months now. What should I be paying for the base price of an annual inspection?
I understand that it takes about 20 hours of labor, and that if problems are found, the cost will obviously be higher. And, that a retractable gear will probably add in a little bit more because they have to jack the airplane and check the gear and gear swing.

Flat rate inspection for your airplane is right at 20 hrs. This rate is for the inspection only. AD compliance, repairs and so forth are extra. The gear swing is included in the flat rate price. The flat rate for a standard 182 is 16 hours. The normal rate here in TX varies from $60 to $70/hr.
The rate for a shop averages around $65 an hour here in North Texas. I am an IA and do a few inspections on the side. I can afford to charge a little less because I do not have a hangar to support. If you can find an IA you trust who can come to your hangar, you may be able to reduce the cost a bit.
The above sounds about right, Fly it up to wisconsin to my shop. KLUM.. I charge a flat rate for single engine retracts at 14 hours. thats for the inspection,AD search, log sign off and all the normal servicing and draining oil etc. Parts are extra and I work out a deal on labor to replace whats unairworthy. I have an FBO but its just me and a helper occasionally. I give a break on the inspections to keep my customers. however it does take longer to do the inspection I just charge a flat rate to pay my bills. other shops with several employees and etc. have to charge what they put into it to pay their bills.
I am trying to find anyone that will repair my pathfinder P2 autopilot. Just quit working and no one wants to touch it. Anybody have a suggestion preferably in the southeast but will look anywhere?
