It should not be too difficult. You will need the STC. You will have to change the engine mount (from Continental bed to Lycoming dynafocal). New baffling and maybe changes to your cowl.
Our flying club's 172M is due for a major next year and I'm trying to persuade them to upgrade to the 180HP. Have you had any disappointments with the insallation? We already have the 50 gallon tanks.
rick,

Rick,
I am very interested in the IO-360 conversion you are putting on your C-175.
You may also want to put this information out to those on the C-175 website [cessna175.net]
Guess I should have addressed my question to Brad.
Is the IO-360 a turbocharged engine? I fly a Seneca II and it has a TSIO-360. Excellent engines with very little problems.
I was referring to a continental 0-360 as a 172 Hawk SP caugh my eye in september and i noticed it had that large engine on it . MY 1963 Skyhawk is now ready for an overhaul and i was wondering which would be the most cost effective: a regular 0-300 overhaul or an 0-360 with more power?
Avcon Conversions has an O-360 for model years 1962 and forward. So does AirPlanes. PenYan may as well. The conversion makes one heck of a difference. There are three skyhawks on my field that have conversions, all of different STC, all are different years. I'm aware of a couple of C172G (1964) that have Avcon conversions. They are more economical to fly than a C182, don't have quite the performance, but are still very good. You'll not go fast because a C172 has an amazing amount of drag. You will get off the ground right quick, however, and climb at a respectable 1000 to 1400 fpm.
rick,
are you talking the c-172 sp or xp the sp has a lycoming IO-360-L2A the xp has a continantal IO-360-xxx i don't know the dash numbers off the top of my head. the xp is the base dad and i are working from.
