Has anyone installed a Bush or Avcon 180 HP C/S conversion on a 172 recently? I have called Bush Conversions a couple of times and don't get a good feeling at all from the woman on the phone. She is very evasive and doesn't know anything about the product they are supposedly selling. Additionally, she refuses to put me in contact with anyone that can answer my questions. Very weird...
On the other hand, the Avcon guy seems knowledgable and willing to work with me. Now I find out that apparently Bush and Avcon are one in the same and that there are lots of very unhappy former customers. Someone even told me that they are manufacturing parts without a PMA. Something very fishy seems to be going on in Kansas. Anyone out there have any personal experience or insight?
My understanding is that these STC's are held by Robert and Barbara Williams. Most of the comments that have appeared in this forum over the years involve the inability to get through to Robert with questions and concerns. It is certainly not a lack of expertise on his part. Calls are usually fielded in their home and messages can go unanswered for extended periods of time. Does not result in a warm, fuzzy feeling when spending big bucks.
There have been some good things posted about the DelAir conversions (Harry Deliker), and you may also want to consider that option.
Harry at Del Air will have all the infomation you wil ever need. He is a great guy and has more airplane knowledge than anyone I know of in the STC world for cessna's as well as the STC's. Del airs # is: 559-784-9440
I am having the exact same problem. My conversion was done in 1996 by the previous owner. The spinner has cracked and it is, apparently a unique part. I've talked to "Darlene" who is the only one who answers the phone. She's nice enough, but has been no help at all. I finally got an e-mail address from her for Barbara Williams, who is, or used to be the owner. At one point she answered my e-mail and aased me some questions about the plane, saying she would get back to me with price and availability. That was on Spetember 21. However, she has not gotten back to me despite repreated phone calls, e-mails and a letter from me.
I am at my wits' end. Any suggestions? have you, by any chance, got a spinner you'd be willing to sell?
Rumor is that "Darlene" at Bush is actually Barbara Williams. That might explain why she is so evasive with information and will not let you talk to Mrs. Williams. This is a very strange deal.
That would be too weird for words. I've probably spoken with "Darlene" a dozen times. She says that Barbara is traveling and caring for her sick mother in California. She says that she will get my messages to Barbara, but that is all she can do.
All I want to do is give them some business, and get a spinner that will work on my plane. Does anyone have any ideas of a spinner that will work with this Bush Conversion?
I just saw your 10/2006 post and your concern in trying to deal with the Williams. I have a complete Avcon spinner and backing plate which I removed from a AVCON converted 170B. If you still are looking I will work with you.

I'm interested in a Cessna Aerobat with a higher horsepower engine upgrade. Does anyone know which of the conversions allow retention of the aerobatic certification for both the C150 and the C152 Aerobats?
I have been trying for 2 1/2 months to get an estimated ship date from Bush Conversions for a 175 conversion. Mind Boggeling, is all I can say. I began calling Bob (robert) at AvCon for information, and even offered to pay for the STC just to get the paperwork to my AP and still no dice!
Dose anyone out there have the paperwork for a Bush 175 conversion, they are willing to share? I would like to provide my AP with it (he has not done one of these conversions) for obvious reasons. Also, any comments on the installation would be helpful. Thanx!
