I've had my Private for less than a year so please be kind. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but...

I have an older C182 with no auto pilot. On longer xc flights I like to climb to 5000 MSL at Vy (23"MP & 2450RPM) and then transition to a cruise climb (Vcc) of about 90 kts. Up to 7500 MSL this gives me a climb performance of just over 500ft/min and 21 gal/hr. Once I reach cruise altitude (7500 to 10500 or so) I dial it back to MP & RPM settings that give me better gas mileage at 130-ish kts. Any suggestions on how best to plug these Vy, Vcc and cruise settings into SkyVector, AOPA iflightplanner, or any of the others?

Hi everyone,
After countless decades I've decided to get my Commercial license. I've just passed the commercial written exam using the King Schools course materials but I haven't started on the flight side yet. I hope to line up an instructor very soon. At age 65 this is very challenging but I'm making it happen. Have you recently gotten a new license or rating? If so, chime in, I'd like to hear about your experiences.

Best regards,

I'm a private pilot with around 330 hours and a lot of cross country. I've got about 25 hours towards the instrument rating and have passed the knowledge test. I used Kings School for ground school. I own a business and have had a lot of starts and stops with instrument. I am at another stop at the moment. I was thinking to use PIC or someone like them to finish it up. Just take the week off work and knock it out. I understand the concepts, but need to get better at the scan and coordinating both needles on the approach. I have a 182 with two nav/coms and a DME. I have a Garmin aera 660 for information only but otherwise no GPS or autopilot. Has anyone else here used a company like that and what are your impressions of it?

So this might not belong here, but as it relates to an "instrument", this is where I posted. Yesterday a club member aborted his take-off run in our 150G when the airspeed indicator failed to indicate anything. He advised tower (controlled airport, Class D) and exited the runway and taxied back to our tie-down. His previous pre-flight didn't see any issues with the pitot tube (it has a new cover), but we have had some heavy rains since the last flight and high humidity.

After re-inspecting the pitot tube for blockage, they (rated PPL and a CFI for training) tried again and all went well. Here's the issue. As told to me by the FSDO, the tower had to report the aborted take-off to the FSDO because it occurred on a controlled runway, and now the FSDO is requesting that we have some type of inspection documented in our logbook that the pitot / airspeed indicator system is airworthy. He even asked me to email him a photo of the entry. I'm not entirely sure of the reasoning behind it, but my understanding it's something along the lines of the PIC made a determination the aircraft is not airworthy due to the failed indication, but as an owner / operator we do not have the ability to later deem it airworthy. He stated if we could find something in the POH or Service manual for us to refer to as preventative maintenance which resolved the issue, then we could use that. Otherwise an A&P entry.

I'm hoping that simply documenting the pre-flight inspection in the POH would suffice. Appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Thanks

I bought my first plane in October '21, a 2001 turbo 182. I have almost 80 hours in it so far, and am doing mostly long cross-country flights (2.5-4.5 hours). I've been leaning as per the POH, to peak TIT -50 or so (50 ROP), and outside of my CHTs everything has seemed fine. The CHTs however have been running in the 400-430 area, and in trying to sort that out I've run across the ROP vs. LOP discussion (I'm a SavvyMX client so reading up on Mr. Busch also). I'm about 400 hours shy of the 2,000 TBO number and would like to baby this girl where I can.

Would love to hear some thoughts on running 25 LOP in a plane like mine, using "the big pull" to get through the red box quickly, etc. ... appreciate the help!

Good day everyone. New member here. I am exploring getting my commercial ticket. If I do it, I am going to want both my single and my multi commercial rating. FYI I have my private, instrument, and multi ratings. One school tells me that it is best to get the initial rating in my T310R, then add on the Single. Another school tells me it is better to do all the training in the single then add on the multi. Any ideas on which way is the best way?
Thanks for any feed back.
