Hello

Hello everyone. Just joined and myself and my son are first time aircraft owners. We purchased this 1965 172F at the end of March 2025. It is in very good condition mechanically and decent interior but dated. So, we are now replacing the seat upholstery, and soon the carpet and panels. It flies great and we love it.

    Hi Richard,

Great looking aircraft, congratulations! Don't be a stranger! As you make improvements post them here for members to enjoy! Ask questions, get answers.

Keep the pointy end forward, and the dirty side down.

    Regards,

    Mike

Hi Richard, perfect first Time plane. Welcome. Carl

  • Well, I have my new seat upholstery in, but I can't get the photos to upload. But I believe it looks great. Took the old out and found that the original had been upholstered over with matching as the original.

Repaired the frames where necessary (I was really taken back that Cessna charged me $184 for a single screw/bushing that was proprietary). I had the frames sandblasted and powder coated. Then put the new upholstery on. Really nice, and really easy (Sportaircraftseats.com).

I've ordered new carpet and side panel covering, should arrive in about 3 weeks (SCS Interiors). The head liner is another story. I'm frightened with that. Weight and balance soon.

Richard- how’d you like the plane seats.com experience? I’m in the middle of doing seats from Airtex and it hasn’t been that good an experience though in the end no argument about the quality, just bumpy getting there.

  • Doug957 forgive me for the late response. These seats are GREAT and high quality. I did a lot of research before purchasing, including Airtex. Airtex upholstery is good quality but too involved for me. Sport Aircraft Seats were exactly what I was looking for. Super easy to install. I chose the Italian leather. The upholstery was completely assembled, all I had to do after getting the frames ready, was to set them on. The seat back slipped over the frame, and the bottom sat on the frame and secured underneath with straps. They have several videos available on their website and Youtube has a few of customers installing them. Here is a pic of the pilot seat installed (before new carpet).
