TR 182 Shimmy Dampener

I would like to replace the shimmy dampener on a 79 TR182 with a McFarlane or a Lord dampener. It appears that both make a dampener that replaces the Cessna part but when you look at the eligibility chart it does not mention the TR182 model. I believe other owners have made this change What am I missing?

Many Thanks,

Kirk

  • AircraftSpruce has a Lord damper. look in the application chart.

    SE-1090-1 Replaces Cessna P/N 0842410-2

  • Thanks Jim!!! I called Spruce for the McFarland and we couldn't find it I asked about the Lord and the person couldn't find it. I'll admit I hadn't looked at the Lord too throughly as I wanted a rebuildable option (McFarland) I'll head down the Lord path Thanks again

  • I glad that you found the part.

I have overhauled the shimmy damper on my C175 a few times...just o-rings.

  • The reason you can't find it is that neither Lord nor McFarlane make a damper that is certified for the TR182. I ordered one for my R182 because at the time (about 2 years ago) the literature was showing a damper available for the R182 but when I got it, in the box was a revised applicability chart and the R182 was not on it. I called Lord and confirmed there is no Lord part fpr the R182. As you probably found out, a new damper for this model is crazy expensive. Just rebuild what you have and if you have one that is too far gone, buy a salvage and rebuild that.
