CamGuard Oil Additive (Aircraft)

Is it safe to add CamGuard to a newly rebuilt cylinder / engine oil before the new rings have had a chance to break in? It just seems to me that adding a anti friction lubricant would not allow the rings to seat. Can someone please tell me if I should add CamGuard or not. Thank you very much. Engine is a O-470.

No additives until you are satisfied with break in. Simple isnt it? CArl

  • The new cylinders should break in within a few hours, which would be a couple of flights, so adding anything to the break in oil would not be necessary.

Using Camguard after break in is a good idea to reduce any corrosion due to inactivity of a month or so.

Mike Bush is the guru on engines, and his book is a must read.

    Read Bill Ross instead.
