Controller-to-pilot blind spots
To my pilot friends, specifically those who regularly use the ATC system, and my controller friends who are curious and are looking for a discussion topic:
What (anything: phraseology, systems, weather, performance, etc.) do you feel the person on the other side of the radio doesn't understand about what's happening on your side of the radio?
Example: student IFR pilot getting chastised by ATC for fumbling through a readback, especially if it's quiet on frequency. Student is a STUDENT! Does not have the experience to know how to deliver a perfect readback.
I'm part of the ATC Local Safety Council at Center and am trying to brainstorm discussion/education topics for the controller workforce. Thanks!

Both my 172 and I are older than 1960. I'm purely VFR and sometimes feel a little intimidated when all I want is safe passage thru a controlled airspace. Our VMC/IMC groups get to hear form controllers about 3-6 times a year. I wish there was a code word or phrase I could use to let them know that I am what I am, and that's all that I am.
That being said, controllers are generally very helpful. I use flight following fairly frequently and can sometimes tell when they seem to be busy, so I try to stay in the background. However, checking in with me every now and then is assurance that I'm in their system and meeting my end of the tasking.
