inop stall warning vane for cessna 182

I recently purchased used 1981 182R and still working through some issues. During the pre-buy, the stall warning system worked OK, but now it is inoperative. I have done some trouble shooting and determined that the ground connection is OK, and the stall warning horn works fine. So it appears to be the "Safe Flight" Lift Detector switch that has a problem (Model Number 146). I called Safe Flight and they want $2400 and 30 days to repair this switch. I am looking at scrap, but I just can't believe I am the only person that has had this problem. Any other suggestions for testing, repair or replacement? Thanks in advance!

Yeah there's a good and bad on the stall warning vanes. Lift detectors. The good is normally they last an awful long time. The bad is when they do go out they're not necessarily cheap. I would definitely start hitting some of the salvage yards. Even just doing a Google search with the part number may get you close to somebody who has one. I've seen many that should never have worked and they're 40 years old so they do have longevity kind of built into them. Carl

  • Thanks for your reply. There just does not seem to be much information about this that I have found.

Found a Lift Detector P/N 146 from BAS -- should arrive next week. Nice thing about BAS is that they have a 30-day guarantee and state that it is working. Will update the post when I get a solution that works.

That's great Tim b a s is doing a great job and I purchased a complete vertical stabilizer for my 172 from them. They really emerged as a top notch recycling group. Good to hear and good luck. Carl
