Amber Light on a C172N

Hello all,

I have an amber light below my master switch and I can't figure out what it's for. I've never seen it lite up. It was installed when I purchased the plane and I tried to reach the previous owner with no luck. I know what the red light is for but I can't find the amber one in the POH or maintenance manual.

Thank you!

T0m, I'm going to take a stab at that and say that it's probably a starter contact stuck indicator light. It may or may not be hooked up at this point. Also you should have a placard for the red over voltage or under voltage light. (Depend on model years) That label would normally be on the plastic overlay. Carl

  • Thanks Carl, you are right about the red light.

It looks like you have a Stec starter which was cool so I'm wondering if somebody installed a warning light for starter activation warning.. previous owner may haveit had an issue which necessitated a starter change out.

If you wander through your log books you might actually find a statement if somebody was nice enough to put it in there. See what you can find. Carl

  • Might have been just to indicate if Master was On or Off. Know a few people who accidentally left it On...hard to see, especially in the dark, which way the rocker sits.or maybe Alt Off/On, if you start w only Batt engaged
