electro luminescent panel

I have a 1974 182P model. The EL panel works briefly then quits. Wait a few minutes and it works again for 30 seconds. I'm thinking it is a transformer or such and was wanting to get the part number so I can order a new one. I'm too old to get under the panel any more so I'll leave that up the my mechanic at the annual. My master switch solenoid is also starting to act up momentarily. Looking at Spruce, the reports are not good for the replacement part. Anyone have any suggestions for a new one?

Well might be worthwhile figuring out if you actually have a master switch issue or a solenoid issue. Your master switch could be having a issue if you have a damaged or non-existent diode across the solenoid to prevent arching in the switch. Lamar has been around for eons making aircraft electrical components and I wouldn't have a problem buying one off spruce or skytec. They make pma'd units.

If your master solenoid is "starting to act up," the first thing I would check is the capacity of your battery! Not just the voltage, but also the ability to deliver the current. The last time I ignored this sign lead me to a failed electrical system in IMC. Yours might be fine, but it does not hurt to check it out.

Certainly a good idea Mike, nothing like experience! Carl
