First-time owner of a T210, based in Indiana

Hello! I recently joined this organization and am looking forward to learning from others here in my journey as a pilot and as a Cessna T210 owner. I started flying about five years ago, and have completed my private and my instrument rating. I took lessons at KUMP (Indy Metro) and KTYQ (Indy Executive).

I've been keeping my eyes out for six-seater options, as I have four kids and wouldn't mind occasionally taking them on a trip. In August I happened upon a 1978 turbo 210M for sale in Kokomo, Indiana, and was able to close the deal. Been flying it this fall to get acclimated, and I hope to take a number of trips in it during 2026. The avionics and interior are already upgraded, so it doesn't need much work, although I added Gamis and replaced the baffles to deal with some heat issues. Now it's much cooler and I'm learning about flying LOP.

I do plan on getting a paint job at some point, so definitely interested in finding out tips and potential vendors for that.

    Welcome Johnathan!

A lot to learn on that airplane and I'm sure you'll get some really good feedback to any questions you ask on the forum. Happy New Year

    Hi Johnathan,

Welcome to Cessna Owners! Beautiful aircraft. Don't be a stranger, and consider joining us at Oshkosh this summer for our yearly dinner get together.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • I have found the T210 to be a really great plane, so fun to fly. I purchased my T210N 4 years ago and have enjoyed taking my family on trips too, it has a great useful load and speed to boot. I noticed your plane is equiped with TKS deicing which I have on my plane also. I think I have only actually used it 3 times but it has gotten me out of weather I got trapped in unexpectedly. One tip on TKS is you need to run it at least once a month for 5-10 minutes. I learned the hard way and didn't run it for months and then when I needed it the filter was totally pluged. It is messy stuff so I now run it once a month at the first of a 2 hour flight so it is mostly done dripping when I land so minimual drips in the hangar.

I also run lean of peak at 13gal/hr, I think it actually seems to run smoother lean of peak and cylinders sure run cooler. I take off and climb out as per POH but cruise lean. Watch Mike Busch's (Savvy Aviation) youtube on Lean of Peak. He has some great pointers.

    Enjoy that bird,

    Jerry
